Happy Saturday y'all! Below, I have rounded up some things for you to think about this weekend:
1. Astronomers working on a project called the Event Horizon Telescope may have taken the first photo of a black hole. However, we won't know for sure for quite a while—possibly even until 2018. That's because it will take time to process the images that eight separate observatories caught, which totals 500 terabytes on 1,024 hard drives. Since the locations cannot process the data locally, they need to be transferred to an observatory in Massachusetts, where supercomputers will crunch the data. This means that we may know soon if an image of a black hole was indeed captured.
That's all for this week's edition of Weekend Thoughts. Until next week, keep thinking wilder.
